What is mindfulness to you?

Mindfulness is a particular type of attention. It is characterized by a spatious, open, non-judgemental, present moment awareness.

How do you use mindfulness in your work, research, or practice?

I conduct educational research on contemplative approaches (including mindfulness practices) to transformative education for sustainability.

How has the practice of mindfulness affected your life (personally and professionally)?

I have been practicing Theravada Buddhism and Vipassana meditation for over a decade. I practice daily and attend extended silent retreats twice per year. My meditation practice is one of the most important things in my life.

How can mindfulness transform society?

Mindful attention allows one to become aware their condititioned mind-states. Before we can transform society, we must be willing to transform our minds. Before we can transform our minds, we must be willing to know them.

What does the future hold for the practice of mindfulness?

The future is uncertain! Pay attention to the present!
