Center staff learn at Omega Institute for Holistic Studies
At Center, our most critical mission is to be responsive to the immediate needs of our communities. As we collectively continue to adapt to life after two-plus years of pandemic and shifting work/life boundaries, Center has seen an increase in programming requests around empathy and compassion fatigue, burnout, and grief.
This summer, Nika and Zach traveled to Rhinebeck, New York to study at the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies, bringing back new tools and skillsets to better serve our communities in and outside of ASU.
Nika studied with author, poet and life coach Mark Nepo for the three-day workshop The Deeper Teachers: Pain, Fear and Grief, who shared lessons from his bestselling work The Book of Awakening: Having the Life You Want by Being Present to the Life You Have.
Meanwhile, Zach had the opportunity to spend five days learning from Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) pioneer -- and author of Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain, and Illness -- Jon Kabat-Zinn and clinical psychologist Will Kabat-Zinn for The Way of Awareness, an intensive practice-based mindfulness workshop.
As we begin preparing our fall workshops and scheduling classroom presentations and speaking engagements, we look forward to bringing the powerful lessons from these workshops to our participants.
